
Kathy Giles-Diaz currently serves as the Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata. She oversees U.S. diplomatic efforts and fosters U.S.-India relations across the eleven states of the Kolkata Consular District, which includes West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim, and the seven northeastern states of India. Before arriving in India, she was the Public Affairs Advisor at the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels, Belgium.
Previously, Kathy served as the Director of the State Department’s International Media Office and as the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Riga, Latvia. Kathy’s other assignments include Tokyo, Japan; Brussels, Belgium; San Salvador, El Salvador; and Washington, DC. Before joining the State Department, Kathy worked as a television news producer covering the White House and State Department and served as coordinator for an international student exchange program.
She holds a B.A. from Wellesley College in biology and Japanese studies and a master’s degree in public administration and environmental science from Indiana University. Kathy is joined in her diplomatic journey by her husband, Miguel Diaz, and two teenage children.
